What changed
HPBA has launched the HPBA Leaders Academy. ICC Chimney is supporting the new program.
The academy will focus on three areas: leadership and communication training, public-policy advocacy, and knowledge of the hearth, barbecue and outdoor-living industries.
Why it matters
HPBA says the program expands on its Government Affairs Leadership Academy, or GALA. Since 2008, GALA has trained industry advocates, with some graduates later taking larger company roles or volunteer leadership positions.
The new academy keeps advocacy in the program while adding more emphasis on leadership and broader industry knowledge. Participants will also be able to connect with other professionals in the field.
Useful details
Applications for the 2027 class are open from October 15 through December 15. The class will be selected in January, and participation is limited.
The program will begin at HPBExpo27 in Nashville from March 3–6, 2027. Participants will attend webinars and meet in person three times: at HPBExpo27, at the 2027 Congressional Fly-In, and at HPBExpo28.
Graduates will join an alumni network that includes Leaders Academy and former GALA participants. The source says retailers and other nonmanufacturer members should contact their Affiliate Executive Director about applying.
